What are the responsibilities of importers when importing?
Importers should implement the main responsibility for food safety in accordance with laws and regulations. In terms of import, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:
l Importers should establish a food import and sales record system, and the records and certificates preservation period should not be less than 6 months after the expiration of the food shelf life; if there is no clear shelf life, the preservation period should be more than 2 years after sales.
l Importers should establish a review system for overseas exporters and overseas manufacturers, focusing on reviewing the formulation and implementation of food safety risk control measures and ensuring that foods comply with Chinese laws and regulations and national food safety standards.
l After the imported foods arrive at the port, they should be stored in a place designated or recognized by the customs; if they need to be moved, it is necessary to be permitted by the customs, and safety protection measures should be taken according to the requirements of the customs; bulk imported foods should be inspected at the unloading port according to the requirements of the customs.
l If importers find that the imported foods do not meet the laws, administrative regulations and national food safety standards, or there is evidence that they may endanger human health, importing, selling and consuming should be stopped immediately according to the provisions of Article 63 and Item 3 of Article 94 of the Food Safety Law, recalls should be implemented, relevant manufacturers, operators and consumers should be notified, recalls and notifications should be recorded, and food recalls, notifications and handling should be reported to the local customs.
