In order to meet the needs of Chinese residents for nutrition and health, improve national health awareness, help residents choose food reasonably, reduce malnutrition and prevent the occurrence of chronic diseases, China first issued the "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents" in 1989, and in 1997 and 2007. Three revisions were made in 2016, all completed by the Chinese Nutrition Society, and issued by the former Ministry of Health and the former National Health and Family Planning Commission.

In order to ensure the timeliness and scientific nature of the "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents" and make it truly meet the ever-changing nutritional and health needs of Chinese residents, the Chinese Nutrition Society decided to revise it every five years. Revision of the Dietary Guidelines (2022). Under the guidance and care of the National Health Commission, after a full investigation of the changes in the dietary structure and nutritional health status of Chinese residents in recent years, based on the principles of nutrition science and the latest scientific evidence, combined with the current epidemic prevention and control, and the prevention of food waste, etc. According to the requirements, the "Research Report on the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2022)" was formed, and on this basis, the revision of the "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2022)" was smoothly promoted. The Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2022) consists of three parts: dietary guidelines for the general public over the age of 2, dietary guidelines for specific groups, balanced dietary patterns, and instructions for the preparation of dietary guidelines.

In order to facilitate the application of the public, the popular science version of the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2022) has also been revised and completed to help the public make healthy dietary choices and behavior changes. At the same time, visual graphics such as the Chinese Residents' Diet Pagoda (2022), the Chinese Residents' Balanced Meal Plate (2022), and the Children's Balanced Meal Abacus (2022) have also been revised and completed to guide the public in specific practices in their daily lives. The Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2022) is the core opinion and scientific consensus of nearly 100 experts on nutrition and dietary issues. It will provide all nutrition and health educators and health communicators with the latest and most authoritative scientific evidence and resources and play an important role in the Healthy China Initiative.

The new version of the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents was released on April 26, 2022, and will be promoted through the 2022 National Nutrition Week and other opportunities.
